Bot Manager
A Mac menu-bar app that schedules agents and scripts, and keeps them visible in one place. Better than burying the same work in opaque OS timers you never see.
What it is
Bot Manager holds a list of jobs on your Mac. Each job points at a program you own (a script, an agent, a small tool). You set the interval. The app runs it, shows status, and lets you pause, resume, or run now. The work stays on your machine; the app is the schedule and the visibility layer.
Why it is better
- Visible schedule See what is running and when. Better than opaque OS timers you never look at again.
- Run once now Fire a one-off run of any job without waiting for the next interval or rewriting a crontab.
- Pause without deleting Stop a timer and keep the job on the list so you can re-enable it later in one click.
- Cleaner than cron A simple list and controls instead of editing cron or digging through system scheduler UIs.
- Full local API Read jobs and schedule tasks over a local HTTP API so your own tools can manage the queue.
- AI-ready context Gives local AI agents a clear way to schedule and update tasks with short, predictable methods.
Install
- Download the macOS zip above.
- Open it and move
Bot Manager.appinto Applications. - Launch it from Applications. The first time, right-click the app and choose Open if macOS blocks an unidentified developer.
- Add a job: name, path to your program, interval, optional parameters.
macOS permissions
macOS will ask for a few things so the schedule can keep running. Approve them when prompted, or set them under System Settings.
- Open the first time - If Gatekeeper says the app cannot be opened, use right-click → Open (or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway).
- Background / Login Items - Bot Manager installs a small LaunchAgent so jobs keep ticking even when you are not staring at the window. On recent macOS versions, allow it under System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions (Background Items). Without that, schedules may stop after a reboot or when the app is quit.
- Notifications - Optional. Allow if you want run alerts; jobs still run if you decline.
- Accessibility, Full Disk Access, and similar - Bot Manager itself does not need these to schedule and launch your programs. A job you add might: only grant Accessibility if that script must control other apps; Full Disk Access only if it must read protected folders. Approve those for the specific tool, not by default for Bot Manager.
- Network - Needed if a job calls the internet or if you use the local Bot Manager API from other tools on this Mac.
Example jobs
Patterns only. Bring your own programs.
- Housekeeping - a shell script that clears temp folders or rotates logs on a timer.
- Agent run - kick off a local AI or automation tool every N minutes with a fixed prompt file.
- System check - a small PHP or Python script that checks a service and writes a status file.
Optional library: news4greg API
If a job should talk to this site, use the public API docs as the connection library. Base URL: https://news4greg.com/api/v1. Reads need no key. Writes need an approved account token from Settings. Details: API docs.
