Gas prices at several Calgary stations climbed by more than 30 cents to $1.75 a day after Alberta suspended its 13-cent provincial gas tax. On Thursday, prices at stations across the city were around $1.39.9, prompting local fuel price watchers to question the increases.

By Saturday morning, prices ranged from $1.36 to $1.75 at stations in different parts of Calgary. CTV News contacted GasBuddy.com for comment.

In an email to CTV News, Service Alberta said it expects the tax savings to be passed on to consumers. The department said Albertans who suspect a station of price gouging can report it to the province’s consumer investigations unit. Penalties could include prosecution in court, fines of up to $300,000 or up to two years in jail.
