Two Calgary men face charges after an investigation into fraudulent vehicle registrations led police to three SUVs believed to be stolen. The RCMP’s southern Alberta district crime reduction unit began the investigation in July after finding a series of phony registrations.

Further checks linked the registrations to a group of suspects in northeast Calgary. Investigators located an illegally registered Lexus SUV in the city and two newer-model Toyota SUVs in British Columbia, all with fraudulent registrations. Police said all three vehicles are believed stolen.

RCMP arrested the two men on Sept. 2 with assistance from the Calgary Police Service. Each faces three counts of use, trafficking or possession of a forged document. Both are expected to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Oct. 20.
