CTV News Edmonton’s weekly roundup featured five stories that drew Edmontonians’ interest: a mutated sunflower at Saint Albert’s Historic River Lots and Grain Elevators, Alberta’s upcoming referendum, warrants for the father of two missing children, expensive Edmonton-area real estate and a dog injured in an e-scooter crash.
The sunflower’s genetic mutation has given it a distinctive shape. Christina Hardie, the site’s program and site manager, said, “But it’s really resonating with people,” adding, “The plant nerds are coming out, which I am one as well. There’s been lots of interest and I’ve been shocked.”
The Canadian Press examined all 10 questions on Alberta’s Oct. 19 referendum ballot and the context for each. National arrest warrants were issued this week for Edmonton father Scot MacDermid, who is accused of abducting his children in contravention of a custody order. Lesley, 9, and George, 6, were first reported missing on Aug. 28.
Among the capital’s most expensive properties last month was a $2.9-million home in Hays Ridge overlooking a golf course. Timba, a dog struck by an e-scooter last month, needed to have her leg amputated. Her owner hopes sharing the account will encourage governments to increase accountability for personal e-scooter users.
