The noise around the Edmonton Oilers is loud, including their new goal song, which debuted at the home opener and got fans’ ears perked up. When fans noticed the change, they took to social media to share their thoughts.

At first, it sounded like a song that had never been played before, which was true because the next day the Oilers released a video showing behind-the-scenes footage of producing “Striking Oil” by Edmonton band Royal Tusk.

The tune was designed for Oilers fans, and fans had mixed feelings about the new song, from glowing reviews to zero-star ratings.

I love this so much. Terrific local touch. Insanely talented band to create the song. Once people start to get familiar with it, all of Oil Country will be singing along with ya. So rad. - Jess Jackson via X

Fluxland was an amazing goal song, the best I think we had in my 23 years as a fan. But this tops it. It’s small, but having an authentic goal song for your team is cool, and it has that high energy vibe for Rogers Place, Royal Tusk was the right band for the job. This cooks. - Spencer03_09 via X

After being able to actually hear the song, I’m all for the change. No issues with Fluxland but this is more personal as it’s written specifically for the Oilers. - Morgan Laidler via X

Divorced coworker rock music. - OilerEnjoyer via X

I’m gonna miss Fluxland for how iconic it was during our cup runs but I love that they’re repping Edmonton’s local scene that’s sick. - BjorckTheGOAT via X

I 100% can understand why people are frustrated, as am I abit. However it would be pretty good if the whole arena was to follow along saying “hey” and “let’s go oilers” especially in the playoffs , that would be electric. - howareya via X

Look, I don’t hate it, but this is a downgrade from Fluxland. An unnecessary change. For as long as McDavids an Oiler, Fluxland should be the goal song. - JonahHepas via X

Fluxland was already interactive and had become pretty synonymous with the Oilers after years of constantly changing goal songs. Unsure why any change was needed. That being said, hearing it here, it isn’t so bad. But I will really miss the thumping of Fluxland. - bbbbraeden via X

Like that it’s local. Terrible song tho. - Argeppi via X

After listening to the recent Oilers post showing more about the song, there is some crowd chants there. I think with some time it’ll grow on people. - Shawn Michaud via X

When I originally saw the reaction to the goal song on Tuesday night, it looked more negative on social media. However, after the Oilers dropped the video explaining everything behind it, the idea started to grow among fans.

Old one was a 1000x better. No debate. Bring it back. - otown85 via Instagram

Old one was iconic. - Tylerfoxcroft via Instagram

Idk what they were thinking when they picked this song. It’s pure static. - Instaginn10 via Instagram

Its a hard pass on this new goal song. - Rjwinston via Instagram

Sounds like something EA sports would have commissioned for NHL27. Do what you will with that information. - Kevin Opaquery via Facebook

Not sure why everyone is hating on it.. local rock band and built for the oil! Seems like a win win. - Kris Mosiuk via Facebook

Sounded good. Good to make a change. It was time. Just need to add the Young Farts trailer parts (weeeeyoooo) sound effect after the goal announcement now. - Randy RK via Facebook

Love that it’s CATCHY AF. - Dior Sopranoo via Facebook

The real catch with this goal song is that a local band created it. It’s a nice touch from the Edmonton Oilers to go out of their way, work with local artists, and create something unique for the team.

And while some aren’t the most fond of the change, it might be one of those situations where it grows on others. I personally wasn’t a fan of the last one when the Oilers first used it, and after some time and playoff victories, it was hard not to love.

Now the real question is whether they changed the win song, which would be a genuine surprise compared to the goal song. “La Bamba” has become iconic, and it was Joey Moss’s favourite song, so it has sentimental value; the odds that the Oilers change it are low, but we’ve been surprised before by this organization.
