The Canada Energy Regulator has approved a settlement on shipping tolls between Trans Mountain Corp. and companies moving oil through its Alberta-to-British Columbia pipeline. A regulator commission found the agreed tolls were “just and reasonable.”
The decision allows the federal Crown corporation to contract up to 90 per cent of the pipeline’s capacity to shippers, an increase from 80 per cent. Trans Mountain announced the agreement in July after 18 months of negotiations with the companies.
The 1,180-kilometre pipeline runs from Edmonton to a marine terminal in Burnaby, B.C. Crude is loaded there onto tankers for shipment across the Pacific. A project that tripled the pipeline’s capacity to 890,000 barrels per day began operating in 2024. The company plans another expansion, to 1.19 million barrels a day, by late 2028. The Canadian Press report was first published Sept. 28, 2026.
