A 40-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and luring a child under 16 after a five-month investigation by RCMP in Fort Saskatchewan. Alberta RCMP said officers arrested the man following an investigation into an allegation involving a youth.

Police began investigating on April 28, after receiving a report that the youth had been sexually assaulted by a man earlier that month at a rural residence near Fort Saskatchewan. The youth was then dropped off in Edmonton, according to an RCMP news release.

Investigators worked with a local youth support agency and obtained information that led them to identify and arrest the accused. Police brought him before a justice of the peace, who released him on several conditions.

Those conditions include no contact with the complainant and no contact with anyone under 16. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Fort Saskatchewan in October.

A publication ban has been issued to protect the youth’s identity. RCMP have not released further identifying details about the youth or the accused.

The charges follow an allegation reported to police, and the court process is set to continue in Fort Saskatchewan. The source report did not provide a specific October court date.
