An Edmonton man has been charged with arson in connection with a June fire that destroyed eight businesses in Airdrie, Alta., RCMP said. The fire broke out at a strip mall on Centre Avenue and caused more than $1 million in damage. No one was injured.

The accused is Jaideep Singh, 21. He has been released on conditions and is expected to appear in court next in October. The source did not specify the date of the appearance or the conditions of his release.

The strip mall where the fire occurred remains fenced off. The charge follows a blaze that destroyed all eight businesses in the commercial property. No further details about the cause of the fire, the businesses affected or the investigation were provided.
