Calgary police are asking for help identifying two people accused of taking a banana without paying and assaulting an employee at a business in the 500 block of 17 Avenue S.W. The incident occurred just before 9:30 a.m. on May 27, after the pair entered the business and asked for water. They were told they would have to pay for it.

In a Friday news release, police said, “The female became disruptive, throwing coffee cups from the counter onto the floor and taking a banana without paying,” Police said the employee tried to escort both people out. “As the employee was attempting to escort the two individuals from the business, the female suspect is believed to have assaulted the employee before fleeing with the male suspect.”

The two suspects are described as between 12 and 18 years old. Police blurred their faces in released photos because they may be youths. If they are underage, their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police described the female suspect as having medium-length dark hair and wearing an all-black tracksuit with black shoes. The male suspect wore an all-black tracksuit with a white stripe down the arms, a black hat and black shoes, and carried a longboard.

Anyone with information about the incident or who knows the suspects’ identities is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
