A partnership between TELUS World of Science Edmonton (TWOSE) and Edmonton Public Library (EPL) has received the Alberta Museums Association’s 2026 Leadership Award for Sustainability. The award was presented Wednesday for a project that expands access to science in Edmonton.

The Science Access Pass offers free general admission to TWOSE for up to six people. It can be borrowed like a book for three weeks at a time from the libraries in Abbottsfield, Clareview, Highlands, Sprucewood and Woodcroft. Since the pass was created in 2023, about 7,500 people have visited TWOSE each year using it.

The association’s award recognizes museums that “build organizational vibrancy and integrate cultural, social, environmental, financial, and health and well-being considerations into their work.” TWOSE president and CEO Constance Scarlett said the recognition showed what collaboration can accomplish.

“Everyone deserves the chance to get curious, ask questions, and experience the joy of discovering something new. Working with Edmonton Public Library helps us bring that opportunity to more people in our community,” Scarlett said in a statement.

EPL CEO Sharon Day said: “Access to learning changes lives and strengthens communities.” She added, “This award reflects the power of a shared vision between EPL and TELUS World of Science to create opportunities for everyone to discover what’s possible.”
