Global News Edmonton has reported:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared together before a crowd in Nottingham, central England, for the first time since returning to the country last month. At the Community Recording Studio, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex greeted cheering visitors, posed for selfies, hugged people, shook hands and spoke with members of the public. The centre uses music, performance and athletic programmes to help young people build confidence and practical skills.

One woman called out, “We love you, Duchess Meghan, we love you,” according to the Associated Press. The couple were met with warm applause and cheers. The Nottingham visit was the first of several events scheduled for the day.

After the studio, Harry and Meghan were due to visit Himmah, described as the region’s largest food bank, and Epic Partners, which provides sports, education and mentoring programmes for disadvantaged young people. Nottingham is also where the couple made their first public appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017.

The day’s arrangements included an announcement using their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles and a prearranged media pool covering their movements. The couple are non-working members of the Royal Family, and their public appearances are not official engagements carried out on behalf of the Crown.

A letter sent on behalf of King Charles III to U.K. government officials shortly after Harry and Meghan returned to the country permanently reaffirmed that they would not use the styles “His Royal Highness” or “Her Royal Highness.” The letter also stated that any charitable work they undertake would be in a private capacity. Charles is Harry’s father.

Harry and Meghan gave up their royal duties and moved to California more than six years ago. There, through their media company, Archewell Productions, they secured lucrative contracts with Netflix and Spotify. Harry’s best-selling memoir, Spare, was published in 2023 and aired private details about the family, deepening a growing divide among the royals.

Relations between the couple and the Royal Family remain strained, although Harry has recently expressed interest in reconciliation so he can spend more time with his father. Charles is being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer. After the diagnosis was disclosed in 2024, Harry said he wanted to spend time with him.

“Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” Harry told the BBC last May. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Harry and Meghan visited the U.K. in July and met King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, a country estate west of London, Buckingham Palace confirmed. Their current return follows an earlier period in Canada: Harry, Meghan and their eldest child, Archie, spent a short time on a private estate on Vancouver Island before moving to California.

Last week, Harry said he struggled with his mental health and fell into a depression after leaving England and moving to Canada in 2019. “It was myself, my wife and our son Archie, and we moved to Canada to get some space away from everything just to be able to think,” he said, according to People and The Hollywood Reporter. “Being in Canada, away from the stressful environment where presumably my body was just pumped full of adrenaline, within two or three days, I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I’d never experienced before,” he added.

Harry is also engaged in a years-long effort to have his taxpayer-funded security reinstated. The protection was cancelled when the couple stepped away from official royal duties. Now that they have returned to England, a fresh assessment of their eligibility for government protection is underway. The report included information from the Associated Press and Global News’ Katie Scott.
