Sherwood Park News has reported:
Two advance voting locations in Sherwood Park and Strathcona-Sherwood Park extended their hours Saturday after high winds disrupted power at polling stations across Alberta on the final day of advance voting in the provincial referendum. Elections Alberta said the Four Points by Sheraton Sherwood Park site in the Sherwood Park electoral division would stay open until 9 p.m., while Emerald Hills Shopping Centre in the Strathcona-Sherwood Park division would remain open until 8:50 p.m.
Several advance voting locations around the province were temporarily closed by power outages on Saturday, Oct. 17. Polling stations that reopened were allowed to extend their hours to make up for time lost during closures.
The Two Hills Recreation Centre, in the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville electoral division, closed at 2:20 p.m. and was still closed at 5 p.m. Voters were redirected to Vegreville. Elections Alberta said voting materials, ballot boxes and ballots were secured at all locations during closures, and notices directed voters to alternate sites within their electoral divisions or to return once power was restored.
The agency said it would provide updates as more information became available.
