Sherwood Park News has reported:

Strathcona County council is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, with proposed changes to residential snow-clearing standards and the creation of a council remuneration task force among the agenda items. Councillors will also consider a $2.01-million operating budget amendment for the county’s Clean Energy Improvement Program.

Administration recommends extending the target for residential snow removal from 10 days to 12 days after windrowing begins. The Winter Maintenance Policy report says increased freeze-thaw cycles, freezing rain and growth in the residential road network have made it difficult to meet the current target consistently.

A proposed temporary, independent Council Remuneration Task Force would include three to five public members. It would review compensation, allowances, benefits, pensions and related policies, then report back to council by June 30, 2027.

The proposed budget amendment would be funded through the Clean Energy Improvement Program reserve and is described as budget-neutral. Administration says the program has reached capacity and that activity forecast for 2027 materialized in 2026, requiring funding authority to be moved forward.

Councillors are also being asked to direct administration to prepare a report on problem properties. The report would address how prevalent they are, enforcement activity and options for additional enforcement measures.

Other agenda items include proposed changes to the county’s vehicle-for-hire bylaw, a motion about replacing stolen neighbourhood identification signs in Woodbridge Farms, and a resolution seeking provincial changes that would let municipalities issue violation tickets under Alberta’s Weed Control Act.

The complete agenda is available through Strathcona County’s eScribe meeting portal. Sherwood Park News said it will cover council decisions and debate following the meeting.
