Sherwood Park News has reported:
Strathcona County has launched Go Strathco, a new tourism marketing initiative intended to help visitors find local attractions, experiences, events and businesses. The launch brought together local business owners, tourism operators, community leaders and industry partners to promote what the community offers.
The initiative is distinct from the Strathcona County brand familiar to residents. Its website gathers visitor experiences in one place and tells the story of the community. The launch marked a milestone in tourism work that has been underway for several years.
Since adopting a tourism strategy in 2020, the county has worked with local businesses, entrepreneurs and community partners to strengthen tourism opportunities and grow the visitor economy. Travel Alberta and Explore Edmonton were represented at the launch, reflecting growing recognition of Strathcona County as a destination beyond its municipal boundaries.
Visitors can explore agritourism experiences on local farms, culinary destinations featuring homegrown flavours, the globally recognized Beaver Hills Biosphere and Elk Island National Park. Festivals, businesses, attractions and events also form part of the experiences promoted through Go Strathco.
Tourism supports local businesses, creates jobs, encourages investment and contributes to a diverse local economy. It can also build community pride by highlighting the places, experiences and people that make Strathcona County unique.
Lorne Harvey, Ward 3 councillor for Strathcona County, encouraged residents to explore the GoStrathco.ca website, visit a local business or attend an event they have not experienced before. He said that viewing the community through a visitor’s eyes can remind residents how much there is to appreciate close to home.
Harvey said the excitement at the launch reflected that tourism in Strathcona County is gaining momentum. He can be reached at 780-464-8149 or lorne.harvey@strathcona.ca.
