Phys.org has reported:

Scientists have achieved strong coupling between light and long-lived acoustic vibrations in an optical fibre for the first time, a result published in Nature Physics.

Optical fibres carry classical telecommunications and quantum communications. They could also function as quantum processors in the future, beyond connecting computing nodes.

The findings pave the way for new technologies in quantum signal processing.
