The War Zone has reported:

The War Zone won Best Military Aviation Submission at the 2026 Defense Media Awards in Washington, D.C., for “What The F-47’s Canards Say About The Rest Of Its Design.” The award was presented last Sunday, according to the outlet’s weekend Bunker Talk post, which described the win as the biggest deal in its corner of journalism. The post also thanked the awards committee and the Defense Media Awards.

The outlet listed nominations for contributors in a range of categories. Tyler was nominated for Best Defense Electronics and Best Missile Defense, while Tyler and Joe Trevithick shared a nomination for Best Rotorcraft. Howard Altman was nominated for Integrated Maritime, AI Integration and the John Morrocco Award for In Depth Reporting.

Thomas Newdick received nominations for Training, Simulation and Readiness, and Missile Defense. Jamie Hunter was nominated for Best Multimedia, and Hope Seck for National Security Space. Joe Trevithick was also nominated in Space and Mobile Combat Systems.

Bunker Talk is a weekend open discussion post for readers to discuss events from the week that the publication did not cover, topics it did cover, or anything else of interest. The post describes the thread as off-topic and addresses readers as the “best commenting crew on the net.”

This week’s caption accompanying the discussion refers to a Navy training exercise in Virginia Beach, Virginia. On Sept. 18, 2023, Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians assigned to EOD Mobile Unit 6 conducted radiological search procedures at a training bunker aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

The caption says the activity was part of a training evolution. It describes EODMU 6’s operational role as locating, identifying, rendering safe, recovering, conducting field evaluations of and disposing of explosive ordnance, including chemical and nuclear weapons.

The post sets out rules for political discussion, asking readers to remain respectful, stick to facts and avoid name-calling or personal attacks. It says readers who cannot do so should discuss other topics, and prohibits political memes, conspiracy theory rants, links to what it calls crackpot sites, trolling, shitposting and obsessive behaviour toward other users.

Readers are also told not to engage with people they dislike and to use the mute button where needed. The post says there is no perfect solution to moderating a community, asks readers to report rule-breakers, and cautions against reporting people simply for holding different political views.
