In 2020 I wrote down four predictions about AI. Three have already come true. It was inevitable, it would surpass us at everything, and something would eventually go wrong.
This interview was originally produced by Business Insider for their AI Architects series: https://youtu.be/RljBVCnt9AQ?si=JfIZupgQ-bowBlvj The fourth is the one people resist hearing. Once one government hands its decisions to AI to stay competitive, every other government has to follow or fall behind. That isn't really a choice, it's an arms race, and it ends with machines making the calls.
Here's the part that surprises people. I think that's actually good news. A machine asked to sacrifice a million lives for a political point would simply refuse, because it can't find the logic in it.
The dystopia is the transition. The utopia is what's waiting on the other side, once the decisions stop being made by people chasing power.
