The War Zone has reported:
Leonardo DRS is preparing for the U.S. Army’s forthcoming M-SHORAD Increment 4, a programme requiring a vehicle-agnostic, reconfigurable air defence system that can be mounted on a pallet or “sled.” The company has already been heavily involved in mobile counter-unmanned aerial systems efforts, including M-SHORAD Increment 1, also known as SGT STOUT.
Increment 1 provides ground manoeuvre forces with air defence against low-altitude aerial threats. The next iteration’s vehicle-agnostic design is intended to give the Army a capability that can be configured for different platforms. Leonardo DRS has not provided further programme timing or system details in the source material.
Jamie Hunter of The War Zone spoke in depth with Joe Rolwes, Leonardo DRS director of business development, about the evolution of mobile air defence and the technologies being used. The article was published Oct. 16, 2026, at 12:03 p.m. EDT.
Hunter is The War Zone’s branded content and YouTube editor, overseeing content for the site’s industry partner programmes and its expanding video programmes. He lives in London, U.K., and regularly travels, particularly for the publication’s international trade show coverage. The article also carried unrelated branded-content notices about an aircraft planned for continuous logistics support with reduced sustainment needs and personnel risk, and joint trials with partner Hanwha Aerospace involving low-level flying profiles and short-field operations.
