Slashdot has reported:

KDE Plasma 6.8 is now available, bringing a range of desktop improvements as the KDE project marks its 30th anniversary. The release includes optimizations to video memory (vRAM) use, dwell clicker support on Wayland and support in KWin for the Wayland commit-timing protocol.

Other changes include improvements to the Union theme engine, remote desktop support, multi-GPU handling and multi-monitor use. The update also adds the new kscreenctl tool and server-side drop shadow support, alongside further refinements across Plasma. The release report describes extensive polishing and fine-tuning, particularly for Wayland.

A new film, The KDE Documentary, accompanies the release. It “tells the story of the pioneering open source community that gave computer users a free and open alternative to proprietary desktops like Windows.” The documentary is available to stream for free on YouTube.
