Clayton Keller scored twice as the Utah Mammoth beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 in Edmonton on Thursday, ending Edmonton’s five-game winning streak. Utah improved to 6-2-0 and has won three games in a row. The Oilers fell to 5-1-1 while missing five starting forwards and a defenceman.
Barrett Hayton and Logan Cooley also scored for Utah, while Leon Draisaitl and Shakir Mukhamadullin replied for Edmonton. Karel Vejmelka stopped 21 shots for the win, and Devon Levi made 20 saves for the Oilers.
Hayton scored his first goal of the season and extended his points streak to five games. Utah matched the New Jersey Devils’ off-season offer sheet for Hayton. Draisaitl put Edmonton on the board at 13:54 of the second period. Twenty-three seconds later, Vincent Trocheck sent the puck in front to a hard-charging Cooley, who directed it into the net for his first goal of the season and restored Utah’s two-goal advantage at 3-1.
The result ended Edmonton’s strong run against Utah. The Oilers entered with a 5-0-1 record against the Mammoth, having outscored them 31-16. Edmonton was also 3-0-0 at home against Utah all-time, with a 17-5 scoring edge.
