Global News Edmonton has reported:

The Calgary Stampeders visit the B.C. Lions on Saturday night needing help from other teams to reach the CFL playoffs. Calgary is 8-9, while B.C. is 10-6 and can secure a home playoff game with a victory. The teams have split their first two meetings this season, and the Lions won their first matchup 35-19 at Princess Auto Stadium on July 30.

Calgary cannot clinch a post-season berth with a win or be eliminated with a loss. Its 33-28 defeat to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week gave Winnipeg the season series 2-1. The Bombers are also positioned ahead of Saskatchewan in a potential tie because they split their games with the Riders 1-1 but have the better point differential in those contests.

A Calgary win could still leave the Stampeders fifth and outside the playoffs if Calgary, Winnipeg and Saskatchewan all finish 9-9. In that three-team tie, combined head-to-head records would rank Winnipeg third at 3-2, Saskatchewan fourth at 2-2 and Calgary fifth at 2-3. Calgary would finish ahead of Saskatchewan if only those two teams ended with identical records, since the Stamps outscored the Riders 74-71 in their head-to-head games.

The Stampeders could also qualify with a loss to B.C. if Saskatchewan, currently 8-8, loses both of its remaining regular-season games. A Riders win in either of those games, against Montreal on Saturday or Edmonton on Oct. 24, would end Calgary’s playoff chances. The Bombers will clinch a berth if Calgary loses or if Winnipeg beats the Edmonton Elks on Friday.

Edmonton, at 12-4, can clinch first in the West and home field for the Nov. 7 division final with a win over Winnipeg next week over Saskatchewan. The Elks would also claim top spot if B.C. loses either of its final two regular-season games. If Edmonton finishes first, the Lions can secure second place and host the Oct. 31 West semifinal with one more victory or a Winnipeg loss.

Winnipeg still has an outside chance to take second if it finishes tied with B.C. at season’s end, but would have to beat the Lions by 17 points in their final-week meeting. The East Division playoff picture is settled: the Toronto Argonauts, 9-7, will host the West’s fourth-place team in the Oct. 31 semifinal, with the winner travelling to face Montreal, 13-3, on Nov. 7. The Grey Cup is scheduled for Nov. 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
