Slashdot has reported:
Microsoft says recent Windows 11 updates have made the operating system up to 20 per cent more responsive by improving memory management and reducing background resource use. The changes are intended to keep more PC resources available for the work people are doing, according to Navjot Virk, corporate vice-president of Windows experiences at Microsoft.
“A big part of that work is making smarter use of memory and system resources,” Virk said. “We've improved memory management and efficiency across Windows to help keep more of your PC's resources focused on what you're actively doing.” On computers with 8GB of RAM or less, Windows can now keep up to 2GB more active data in memory instead of moving it to slower storage, he said.
Widgets on those lower-memory PCs now load only when opened, freeing more than 200 MB of memory for apps and other work. Microsoft has also made Windows Update less disruptive, cleaned up the Widgets section and enabled taskbar placement along the sides or top of a display.
Other changes include faster Windows Hello sign-in and more reliable Bluetooth pairing. The AirPods pairing experience is now “up to 15 seconds faster,” Microsoft said.
The next major change is a faster, more capable Windows Search experience. It is currently available to Windows Insiders, with Microsoft saying it will “roll out more broadly later this year.”
