CTV News Calgary has reported:
CTV News will begin its special coverage of Alberta’s referendum at 10 p.m. MT on Monday, Oct. 19, when polls close and results for all 10 questions are expected to be reported. The broadcast, hosted by CTV News Calgary Chief Anchor Tara Nelson, will include live results, reaction and analysis as Albertans vote on the province’s future.
Premier Danielle Smith put 10 questions to voters, including whether Alberta should remain in Canada or hold a second, binding referendum on leaving Confederation. Other questions concern immigration reform and Canada’s Constitution. The questions could shape future Alberta government policies.
Elections Alberta officials expect a record turnout of between 80 and 85 per cent of nearly three million electors. Early results are expected to be released after 8 p.m. on Oct. 19, while the final count is expected in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
CTV News Chief Anchor Omar Sachedina will report from Calgary. Other CTV News journalists will be positioned at key locations across Alberta, representing both those who want the province to remain in Canada and those who support separation. The coverage will include reaction from the separatist movement and federalists.
Vassy Kapelos, CTV News’ Chief Political Correspondent and host of Question Period and Power Play, will lead a special Alberta Referendum edition of her Power Play panel. Former Alberta premiers Jason Kenney and Rachel Notley, along with James Rajotte, Alberta’s senior representative to the U.S., will join the discussion on the referendum’s economic and international implications.
Mount Royal University political scientist Lori Williams will provide analysis and context as figures come in, while Ian White will examine the data. CTV News says its coverage will address what the results mean for Alberta and Canada.
The special will air on television and be available online, on Crave, and through CTV News’ YouTube and TikTok accounts. Coverage will also be available across CTV News’ digital, social and television platforms, including the CTV News app.
CTVNews.ca, CTVNewsCalgary.ca and CTVNewsEdmonton.ca will carry ongoing results and analysis. The CTV News Alberta Referendum hub will provide live results for all 10 questions, with interactive maps updating in real time from poll close through the final count.
