Slashdot has reported:
Epic Games has released a preview of an AI-generated Games Launcher that it says cold-starts 46 per cent faster than Steam on Windows. In a benchmark commissioned by Epic from a third-party company, the preview client started in 5.47 seconds, compared with 10.07 seconds for Valve’s Steam client.
The benchmark, reported by Neowin, also measured how quickly each app resumed from a system tray background state. Epic’s client took 0.36 seconds, while Steam took 0.42 seconds.
Epic says the new launcher includes an improved interface, dedicated game summary pages and custom top bars. It also allows players to combine external PC game libraries, switch between grid and list views, and monitor storage write rates alongside download queues, according to Neowin.
The company says Fortnite will eventually be available on Linux through the new client. That release depends on rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat and establishing kernel-level security agreements with major Linux distributions. The launcher is currently in Preview.
