CTV News Edmonton has reported:

The City of Edmonton is preparing to close its last golf course for the season, while some privately run courses in the region may remain open into November. Victoria Golf Course and Driving Range will have its final day Sunday. Rundle Park’s course closed Tuesday, and Riverside shut down last month for additional rehabilitation work.

Brett Prosser, the city’s golf and sport programming lead, described 2026 as a season of two contrasting stretches. Record rainfall in June and July gave way to a “wonderful” and relatively dry period from August until this week. “The course conditions came out really well after it dried up a little bit,” Prosser said. “All three crews work very hard to put a good product out for the people.”

Many of the dozens of private courses in the region are continuing regular operations on their fairways, greens and driving ranges. CTV News Edmonton meteorologist Josh Classen, who is known to haunt local links, said local golfers “know which courses like to stay open late.”

“There will be some that stay open late, possibly to the end of October and maybe into the first week of November,” Classen said Wednesday. He said the long-range forecast is favourable, while warning that golfers should expect frequent morning frost delays.

Classen said heavy rain in June and July eliminated more than half the days golfers could have spent on the greens as courses contended with precipitation and soggy conditions. “It was extremely unusual,” he said.

The season’s end follows a wet start that affected both city and private courses. CTV News Edmonton’s Evan Klippenstein and Evan Kenny contributed files to the report.
