Phys.org has reported:

Researchers have shown it is possible for a memory device to come close to the fundamental theoretical limit on energy use, a result that could point to a new kind of ultra-efficient memory.

Computers use energy whenever they store or erase information. While each operation takes a tiny amount, computers perform billions every second. For decades, scientists have investigated how little energy memory could use before reaching the limit imposed by the laws of physics.
