CTV News Edmonton has reported:
A wind warning is in effect for Edmonton and much of central Alberta on Wednesday, with gusts of 60 to 90 km/h expected across the region. In Edmonton, afternoon gusts are forecast to reach 60 to 80 km/h, and the strongest winds could cause damage and strip leaves from trees.
The warning covers areas north, west and east of Edmonton, including the Edson, Whitecourt and Slave Lake regions, as well as Athabasca, Westlock, Camrose, Vegreville and Lloydminster. A low-pressure system moving across northern Alberta is bringing precipitation to the province’s northern areas. A few showers reached as far south as Edmonton and Red Deer early Wednesday.
Clouds are expected to clear somewhat through the morning, followed by partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Winds are forecast to strengthen around midday or early afternoon and remain gusty into the early evening, then ease late tonight. Calmer conditions are expected Thursday and Friday.
Edmonton’s Wednesday high is forecast to reach 14 C, with northwesterly winds of 30 to 40 km/h and gusts of 60 to 80 km/h. Tonight’s forecast calls for a few clouds, gusty winds in the evening and easing overnight, with a temperature of 6 C at 9 p.m. Thursday is expected to be mainly sunny, with a morning low of -1 C and an afternoon high of 12 C. Although Thursday will be slightly cooler, it may feel warmer without the wind.
Friday and Saturday are expected to bring warmer air, with mainly sunny skies Friday and a high of 18 C after a low of 2 C. Saturday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, windy conditions, a low of 5 C and a high of 19 C. Sunday and Monday are both expected to be partly cloudy, with highs near 12 C; the forecast lows are 3 C Sunday and 2 C Monday.
Daytime highs for most or all of next week are forecast to range from 11 C to 16 C. The source forecast describes Wednesday’s wind as potentially damaging and says there may be fewer leaves on trees by Thursday.
