OilersNation has reported:
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid played his 800th career NHL game Tuesday night, becoming the seventh player in franchise history to reach that total. The 12th-season forward entered the game with 1,233 points, the third-highest total by any player through 800 games in league history.
Only Wayne Gretzky, with 1,892 points as of Dec. 2, 1989, and Mario Lemieux, with 1,580 as of Jan. 12, 2002, had more at that mark. McDavid’s franchise games total trails Glenn Anderson, Mark Messier, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Smyth, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kevin Lowe.
If McDavid plays all 84 games by the end of the season, he will reach 868 career games and pass Anderson, who played 845, and Messier, who played 851. His other franchise rankings include first in power-play assists with 321, fifth in goals, second in assists and points, fifth in multi-goal games, and second in multi-assist and multi-point games.
McDavid is tied with Draisaitl for the franchise lead in game-winning goals, with 76. He has 100 power-play goals, ranking sixth, and 421 power-play points, ranking second. He is 18 power-play points behind Gretzky and would need 19 to move ahead of him.
With 412 career goals, McDavid is six short of passing Anderson’s 417 for fourth place in Oilers history. He is also 67 points away from 1,300, a milestone that would make him the 40th or 41st NHL player to reach it; Steven Stamkos has 1,263 points. McDavid would be the third-fastest to 1,300, behind Gretzky, who did it in 539 games, and Lemieux, who needed 633.
McDavid needs 79 assists to reach 900, which would make him the 23rd player to achieve that total. He would rank third-fastest, behind Gretzky at 584 games and Lemieux at 771.
He opened the season with three goals, 10 assists and 13 points in five games. A two-point performance in Tuesday’s game would make him the sixth player in league history to record 15 points in six or fewer games to start a season.
The other players to reach that early-season total are Gretzky, seven times; Lemieux, five times; Cy Denneny, three times; Kevin Stevens, twice; and Newsy Lalonde, twice.
