CTV News Edmonton has reported:

The Edmonton Oilers will put their season-opening five-game points streak on the line Tuesday night in Los Angeles against the winless Kings. Edmonton is the NHL’s only team without a regulation loss and is closing out a three-game road trip through California after beating the San Jose Sharks 3-1 on Saturday night.

Mattias Ekholm, Vasily Podkolzin and Alex Formenton scored against San Jose, while goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 19 shots. The victory extended Edmonton’s winning streak to four games. “I just liked that we stayed patient,” Oilers coach Mike Babcock said. “We stuck with the plan.”

Jarry said Edmonton stayed composed when the Sharks clogged the middle and the game was not going the Oilers’ way. “I think we played a simple game,” he said. “I think when things weren’t going our way, or (San Jose was) clogging the middle, we weren’t getting frustrated with it, and it shows a lot of character.”

Captain Connor McDavid recorded an assist in San Jose, extending his points streak to five games, with three goals and 10 assists over that span. Podkolzin has also recorded points in each of Edmonton’s first five games, scoring five goals and adding two assists. Asked about playing alongside McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Podkolzin said: “It’s a super privilege and unique situation for every player. They make me better every day, and I am so grateful for that.”

Los Angeles enters Tuesday’s game after a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. The Kings are hosting the Oilers during a brief two-game home stand and are looking for their first win of the season after losing four straight to open the campaign under new head coach Peter Laviolette.

Forward Adrian Kempe said Los Angeles has remained competitive in most of its games. “I think we’ve been in every game, every game besides the Colorado game, I think has been very even, games that we feel like we definitely could have won,” he said. “I think that still keeps the confidence up in the group. As long as we’re playing with the best teams in the league, that’s always a good thing.”

Artemi Panarin scored the Kings’ only goal against Vegas, and Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves. Kuemper has an 0-2-1 record, an .868 save percentage and a 4.03 goals-against average in three starts this season. Jared Wright, who signed a two-year extension with Los Angeles on Saturday, made his season debut against the Golden Knights, recording three shots on goal in 10:24 of ice time.

Devon Levi is the expected starter for Tuesday’s game. He has a 3-0-0 record, a 3.35 goals-against average and an .863 save percentage in three starts this season.

Tuesday marks the first of four meetings between the Pacific Division rivals this season. Los Angeles won two of three meetings last season, although Edmonton outscored the Kings 11-6 across those games. Laviolette said the team saw positives against Vegas while recognizing the result fell short. “There’s things that we can get better at. It’s early in the season, so we’ll work at those, but there was also some positives from the game,” he said. “I thought we did a lot of good things (against Vegas), but at the end of the day, it’s a business of winning and getting two points, and we left one behind.”
