Slashdot has reported:

Epic Games has delayed an upcoming video-game collaboration with Walt Disney and instructed developers to use more artificial intelligence tools to complete it, according to people familiar with the project. The shooter, featuring characters from Marvel and Star Wars, was slated for release in March. No new date has been communicated, and the sources requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The developers were told to use an “AI first” production model, with tools such as Anthropic’s Claude doing the work under human management and guidance. In an internal message reviewed by Bloomberg, one of the game’s directors told staff, “No more hand-written code,” and said all artwork would be “generated with full AI workflows.”

Epic, the maker of Fortnite, had already been pushing artificial intelligence use across its divisions. The project would mark the first attempt by a major video-game company to build a title primarily with AI, according to the report.

“We're embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do,” Jake Jones, communications director at Epic Games, said in a statement to Bloomberg News. The announcement concerns the game’s production approach and delay; the company has not announced a replacement release date.
