Phys.org has reported:

Researchers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and collaborators demonstrated a method to induce magnetism in an otherwise nonmagnetic, two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor, then adjust its magnetic properties with an electrical voltage. The work was conducted with scientists from institutions in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Germany.

Published in Science Advances, the findings establish a platform for studying electrically controlled magnetism in atomically thin materials. The research has potential implications for future spintronic technologies.
