Lewis Hamilton apologised to Ferrari after a strategy decision contributed to his sixth-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix on Oct. 11, 2026. He said he was responsible for the pit-stop call that compromised his race and cost the team valuable points.

Hamilton was running third behind Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc when the virtual safety car was deployed. Leclerc made a second tyre stop and rejoined behind his teammate, but quickly passed him again.

Three drivers then caught and passed Hamilton before the finish. Lando Norris, who like Hamilton stopped once, was among them, as were two-stop runners Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri. Antonelli pitted during the virtual safety car period, while Piastri stopped later because of a puncture.

After the race, Hamilton apologised to race engineer Carlos Santi and the crew. “Sorry boys, I let you down today with that strategy,” he said. “My call, and I lost us valuable points. I’ll try and make up for it in the next one.”

Hamilton also praised the crew’s work at the stop, saying, “Great job with the pit stop though.” Santi replied, “Understood,” followed by, “Thank you, Lewis”.

The Singapore Grand Prix was won by Verstappen, while Ferrari’s threat faded, according to the race report.
