Slashdot has reported:

Nicolas Cage said he refused to sign an artificial intelligence waiver for Amazon’s Spider-Noir, the Prime Video series that was cancelled after one season. Speaking Saturday at a panel on the Empire Stage at New York Comic Con, Cage said he opposed the company’s approach to AI and suggested he might not work with the studio again.

“Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI,” Cage said. “I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it's like, connect those dots! I'm not a member of their club. I didn't sign the waiver to let him use AI on 'Spider-Noir.' I'm probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that's okay.”

Amazon developed Spider-Noir for Prime Video. The reported waiver would have allowed the company to use AI on the series. Cage’s comments were described as speaking out against Amazon.

The cancellation came last month, only days before the Emmy Awards, where Spider-Noir received 11 nominations, the most of any Prime Video programme this year. The series earned 2.6 billion minutes viewed in its first six weeks on the service, according to ScreenRant.

Spider-Noir was Cage’s first television role. Its first season received a 92 per cent critics’ score and a 90 per cent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised the show as “This sharply written homage to classic film noir - which includes a standout Nicolas Cage performance - is the novel superhero project fans need,” while another review said, “Spider-Noir is one of the standout shows of the year....” Its cancellation was described as a major shock given the viewership and Emmy recognition.

Cage also told the New York Comic Con audience he hopes to work with more young filmmakers from Generation Z. He praised Backrooms director Kane Parsons, who moved from YouTube fame into a Hollywood career.

“I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z, and they're going at it their own way, whether it's through the YouTube culture or whatever it is,” Cage said. “They're doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”
