Mo Gawdat has reported:

Mo Gawdat says machines could take people’s jobs in less than five years, and possibly much sooner, but will not replace human connection. He argues that people’s purpose extends beyond work as machines become able to perform much of what people are paid to do.

“I used to believe the capitalist lie that I was born to wake up every morning and work myself into the ground,” Gawdat said. “I don't think that anymore. I think humanity was built to live, to connect, to love, to reflect. We've just been sold a different story for so long that we forgot.”

Gawdat said that story will have to change as automation advances. He expects it could take a couple of generations for people to unlearn it, while saying the current generation is already questioning why people work as hard as they do.

He also said he hopes a neutral nation will welcome scientists from around the world to build AI openly for humanity’s benefit instead of one country’s advantage. “I know how unlikely that sounds today,” he said.
