CTV News Edmonton has reported:
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he will be in Alberta next week to give a speech on Canadian unity, ahead of a provincial vote on whether to hold a future referendum on separation. He said at a press conference in Burlington, Ont., today that he would do “additional campaigning on the ground.”
Asked about tech industrialist Elon Musk’s recent suggestion that Alberta, Saskatchewan and Quebec should separate, Poilievre said, “Canadians control their own destiny.” He did not specify where or when he would deliver the speech.
Albertans will vote on Oct. 19 on the prospect of a future separation referendum, along with nine other questions concerning constitutional and immigration issues. Alberta’s and Saskatchewan’s premiers dismissed Musk’s comments. Quebec’s new premier has said he will not trigger a separation vote while U.S. President Donald Trump is in office.
