Phys.org has reported:
Ultrafast core-level spectroscopy has revealed elusive precursors of exciton condensation in quantum materials. These phases arise when electrons, atoms and other microscopic components act collectively.
The phases may be preceded by microscopic fluctuations before long-range order develops. Such fluctuations can be present before the material crosses a transition temperature.
