Sherwood Park News has reported:

Strathcona County RCMP and Enforcement Services are asking residents to donate food and cash to the Strathcona Food Bank during this year’s Cram a Cruiser campaign. The annual fundraiser runs Friday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at three grocery stores in Sherwood Park, where police and enforcement officers will collect donations and invite shoppers to fill cruisers with food.

Last year, the five-hour event filled 18 cruisers and collected a record 5,476 pounds of food and $1,838 in cash. Those totals exceeded the previous year’s 4,700 pounds of food and $900 in cash. Organizers hope to build on last year’s results and replenish food bank shelves after Thanksgiving.

“This year we’re challenging residents to help us fill even more cruisers to help replenish the shelves at the food bank after Thanksgiving,” said Tom Sutton, director of RCMP and Enforcement Services. The Strathcona Food Bank recorded 27,500 individual visits in 2025, according to a county news release, as demand for its services remains high.

The food bank’s most-needed items include canned fruit and fruit cups with no added sugar, plain tomato sauce, pasta sauce, unseasoned rice, peanut butter, toothpaste, bar soap and toilet paper. Donations will be accepted at Superstore, #100-410 Baseline Rd.; Save-On Foods, 60 Broadway Blvd.; and Safeway, 2020 Sherwood Dr.

“Every donation, big or small, makes a difference,” Sutton said.
