CTV News Edmonton has reported:
Edmonton police warned Thursday that Denzel Dre Colton Bird, 30, considered a “significant risk” to the community, is being released from prison and will live in Edmonton. Police described him as a “violent sexual offender.”
Bird was convicted in 2018 after admitting to attacking a 25-year-old woman he did not know, dragging her into an alley and sexually assaulting her. Correctional Services Canada is overseeing him on statutory release. He will live at a designated approved facility and must follow a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; police also listed other conditions, but the source text does not specify them.
Police said they weighed Bird’s privacy before deciding, after “careful deliberation,” that informing the public was in the public interest. The warning is intended to help community members take precautionary measures. Police urged Edmontonians not to take any form of “vigilante action.”
