RaceFans has reported:

Esteban Ocon says he will not pursue a drive in another racing series in 2027 if he cannot secure a Formula 1 seat. The French driver said his focus is on staying in F1, where he believes his results and performances have earned him a place.

“That’s where I deserve to be,” Ocon said. “If I look at the results and what I’ve shown in Formula 1, I deserve to be in Formula 1.” He said other categories are appealing, but he wants to race in F1 over the next five to seven years.

“Of course, there are other categories which are fantastic as well. But I want to be racing in Formula 1, in the next five, seven years. That’s what I want to be,” he said. “So I will keep pushing to be that position. In the near future, that’s the only thing I’m looking at so far.”

Ocon made his F1 debut in 2016 and has raced in the series every year since, except 2019. That year, he lost his Racing Point seat to Lance Stroll and spent the season as a test driver for Mercedes.

He said he would consider returning to a similar arrangement if no race seat is available for next year. “If there are no possibilities to race next year, that’s what I will do,” he said.

“I’m still working on it, still discussing,” Ocon added. He said he would announce something once he had more news, while his immediate attention remained on the weekend’s racing. “When I have more news I will announce something definitely, but at the moment, full focus is on this weekend.”

Ocon’s plans for 2027 remain under discussion. The report was published on Oct. 8, 2026, at 11:49 a.m. by Keith Collantine, and said it would be updated.

Collantine, a lifelong motor sport fan, founded RaceFans in 2005, when it was called F1 Fanatic. He had previously worked as a motoring journalist and began running the site full-time in 2010, pursuing his ambition to focus entirely on motor racing.
