Two campgrounds in Banff National Park are closed after grizzly bears entered campsites and investigated tents and gear, Parks Canada says. The closures are intended to reduce risks to both visitors and bears.
Hidden Lake Campground closed on Oct. 1, followed by Baker Lake Campground on Oct. 5. Parks Canada said anyone who violates either closure could be charged under the Canada National Parks Act and face a maximum penalty of $25,000.
The source report did not specify how many bears were involved or when they entered the campsites. It also did not provide further details about the incidents or say how long the closures would remain in effect. CTV News said it had contacted Parks Canada for more information.
