Two Lethbridge residents have been charged with first-degree murder after the remains of 24-year-old Calgary man Frans Fara were found in a burned vehicle near the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site earlier this year. Alberta RCMP identified the accused as Vance Pidborochnyski, 37, and Shelby Filkowski, 30. Both remain in custody.

On Feb. 4, first responders were called to a grass fire south of Eden Valley, near the historic site. Authorities found Fara’s remains inside a vehicle after the fire, which began when the vehicle was burning, was extinguished.

Police have not released the nature of Fara’s death or said whether he had a relationship with either accused. Filkowski is expected to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on Oct. 30. Pidborochynski is scheduled to appear in Calgary on Nov. 5.
