Two men from Maskwacis have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 92-year-old Loel Fenske, whose body was found outside his rural home in Ponoka County. Timothy Bull, 48, and Syran Bull, 19, were charged after an Alberta RCMP major crimes investigation.

Ponoka RCMP found Fenske shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 24. Police considered the death suspicious and called in the major crimes unit. An autopsy conducted in Calgary on Feb. 26 determined that Fenske had been killed.

Investigators had asked the public for dash camera footage recorded from 9 p.m. on Feb. 23 to 3 a.m. on Feb. 24. The request covered the area near Bear Hills Casino and Highway 2A, from Highway 611 south towards Ponoka.

RCMP could not confirm whether the accused men knew Fenske or each other. Syran Bull was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear in court in Ponoka on Tuesday. Timothy Bull was also remanded and was scheduled to appear in Ponoka court on Oct. 16.

The charges follow a death police initially described as suspicious; the autopsy established the manner of death as homicide. The source report did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding Fenske’s death or the investigation.
