A 29-year-old man has been charged with two counts of arson after two fires were set in south Edmonton on June 25, police said. Narayan Bergstrom was charged on Sept. 23 in connection with the fires near 82 Avenue and Gateway Boulevard.
Southwest branch patrol officers were contacted by Edmonton Fire Rescue Service about a deliberately set fire at a building in the area, according to an Edmonton Police Service news release. Investigators later determined that two fires occurred there between 7:40 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. The second blaze caused extensive damage to the structure.
Police said no injuries were reported, and the fires did not affect any other buildings or structures. Investigators reviewed video footage from the area and identified an unknown man seen around the time of both fires.
Last month, police appealed to the public for help identifying the man. He was later identified as Bergstrom, who was charged with two counts of arson on Sept. 23.
Police do not believe any other suspects are connected to the case, and no further charges are expected at this time.
