The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Seattle Kraken 3-1 on Saturday, scoring twice in the final 2:27 to secure their second straight win. Leon Draisaitl broke a 1-1 tie with 2:27 remaining in regulation, and Connor McDavid added an empty-net goal with 1:05 left. The Canadian Press report by Shane Jones was first published Oct. 3, 2026.
McDavid also had an assist, bringing his total to nine points through three games. Owen Michaels and Draisaitl scored for Edmonton, which improved to 2-0-1. Devon Levi stopped 19 shots to earn the win. Bobby McMann scored for Seattle, which fell to 1-1-0, while Philipp Grubauer made 22 saves.
McMann tied the game 9:06 into the second period. The winning goal came when the puck caromed off McDavid to Draisaitl in front of the net, where he scored his third of the campaign. McMann has scored 11 goals in 20 games since joining Seattle last season.
Michaels, a 24-year-old Michigan native, has two goals in his first three professional NHL games. He went undrafted before helping Western Michigan win the first national championship in the program’s history in 2025. Edmonton signed him as a free agent, and he surprised many by making the team out of camp.
Edmonton entered the game with a 15-4-1 overall record against Seattle and an 8-1-0 home record, including seven consecutive home wins. The Oilers have four of the five highest point totals against the Kraken: Draisaitl leads with 34 points in 15 games, followed by McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman in fifth.
Seattle will host the Calgary Flames in its home-opener Sunday. Edmonton heads to Anaheim on Wednesday to face the Ducks in a first-round rematch.
